Revenge is more significant in College sports than professional sports and the “R’ word will be on the mind of LaSalle tonight as all five starters from last seasons team have returned this season. In last years encounter LaSalle was getting +11 with a closing line of +10.5 at Rhode Island.
The game was competitive until the Rams closed the game on a 13-1 run to win and cover ATS, (82-70.) After trailing by 4 at the half, with that late game flurry, the Rams outscored the Explorers (47-31,) in the second half.
When I look at revenge in Conference play I like to see how competitive the teams have been vs. one another. Yes the teams do change drastically from season to season, but rivalries do get the players “juices flowing!”
The key to this game is the health of the leading scorer in Atlantic-10 Conference, B. J. Johnson of LaSalle. He injured his ankle on December the 7 vs. Drexel and tweaked it yet again.
Since his injury the Explores have a 2-2 straight up record in their last four, (3-0 ATS,) with no line on one game. Johnson is averaging 21.8 PPG while missing only the last two games. Center Miles Brookins is also injured, he does play 10+ minutes per minutes per game but averages only 2.7 PPG.
A Look-A-Head Game?
Up next for Rhode Island is a road game at George Washington. I looked back 15 seasons between these conference rivals, including the home and away contests between the Colonials and Rams as well as two Neutral site games.
George Washington has gone 9-3-3 ATS vs. Rhode Island in those 15 games plus Rhode Island is 0-4-1 ATS when traveling to the Colonials. So that road game look-a-head this Saturday might be of some significance and perhaps the Rams might not be as focused as they should be vs. LaSalle.
- LaSalle is 4-1 ATS in their last five meetings at Rhode Island.
- The Road team is on a streak of 13-02-01 ATS.
- The Rams are 05-18 ATS at home after winning eight or more of their last 10 games.
- The Explorers are 9-2 ATS after leading in their previous game by 20 or more points at the half under head coach Giannini.
- Rhode Island is 15-26 ATS vs. excellent ball handling teams that commit 12 or less turnovers per game under head coach Hurley.
Super Picks in Review
I have started the College basketball season at 1-0 ATS here at Super picks.
Tonight’s Super Picks selection is only a play if B. J. Johnson starts.
I suggest you check Twitter near game time so see his status, I will definitely find out before I make a wager of the road dog.
